The 2003 Ford Mustang is offered with a new Mach 1 model which hasn’t been around for a couple decades. This new version comes with a lot of additional features and body accents. The regular models still are as good as ever and have been slightly tweaked from the most recent previous models. The ‘Stang remains a great choice for buyers who are looking to enter the performance car market without spending a large amount of money. Mustangs can be customized in a variety of ways ranging from the very inexpensive to fully loaded works of art that will cost a decent amount of money.
The usual trim packages of recent times are still offered for the ’03 model year including the V6 Deluxe, V6 Premium, GT deluxe, GT premium, and the re-introduced Mach 1. Also available for V6 models is the pony package which adds value and extra features for a really great price. V6 Deluxe models come with quite a few standard features considering it is a basic package. Included are bucket seats, CD players, 17 inch wheels, cruise control, and tilt steering wheels just to name a few. Step into the Premium V6 package and you get fog lamps, rear spoilers and side scoops, CD changers, custom designed interior fabrics, and so much more. The pony package will upgrade owners to body pin striping, and leather wrapped steering wheels and upholstery. GT Deluxe and premium models are rather similar to the V6 packages except the Premium package comes with more interior and exterior body accents.
The new Mach 1 model is a whole different ball game offering the utmost in luxury and performance. Ford decided to place the impressive V8 engine from the F150 into these cars to make them good for 300 horsepower or more. Also revamped is the SVT Cobra model which comes with more power than any other, utilizing a 390 horsepower V8 engine from the SVT lightning pickup that combines drivability with raw power. Also available on all high end models are 18 inch aluminum alloy wheels.
Also upgraded on upper level packages are the suspension systems with higher rated rear springs added to the independent suspension system. The tubular cross brace and bushings have been enhanced as well giving the car an even sturdier handling experience. Custom gas charged Bilstein shocks have been added to both the front and rear of the vehicle.
Somehow, the 2003 Ford Mustang is able to remain very fair in the fuel economy arena as well. As long as drivers aren’t going full-speed all the time, they should be able to get number similar to a regular full-size sedan. For city driving the ‘Stang gets 17 mpg, while highway driving see about 25 mpg fuel economy. Since the Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Thunderbird aren’t produced for the ’03 season it is somewhat difficult to compare these numbers to anything else. Safety is another area where the Mustang excels and it usually receives top ratings for both front and side impact crash tests.
Buyers who want performance and power without a huge price tag seriously need to consider one of the 2003 Mustang models. Being the only Pony Car in production makes it a great piece of American history that is still fun to drive, and an economical choice.
